An attempt to steal liquor from a Lapeer Road store on Oct. 4 led Oakland County Sheriff’s Department deputies on both vehicle and foot chases, before the suspect was finally apprehended thanks to a taser.
According to an OCSD report, the incident began after 6 p.m. at Nick’s Pizza and Keg, located at 1298 S. Lapeer Road.
The subject, a 55-year-old Pontiac man, tried to conceal a bottle of champagne under his jacket and then fled in his vehicle upon the arrival of deputies onto southbound M-24 towards Walton.
The subject took Walton to Colony Lane in Pontiac, where he then drove on the grass and nearly struck a group of children.
He eventually abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot, ignoring orders from police to stop. Deputies were forced to employ their tasers to subdue him.
The man was taken into custody without further incident and charged with retail fraud, reckless driving and fleeing and eluding police.
