Police department to alert businesses on latest scams

The Lake Orion Police Department is moving forward with a program to keep businesses alerted to the latest crime trends, safety issues and other information that can affect village businesses.
Police Chief Jerry Narsh said the new Community E-mail Alert Program is designed to keep businesses informed of important matters in the most expeditious fashion possible.
‘This is the best possible way to make our businesses aware of any crime patterns, such as fraud scams, smash and grabs or robberies,? said Narsh. ‘In the past we had to hand-deliver this kind of information.
‘Because so many businesses now have e-mail,? he continued, ‘we are able to get this information to them in advance of something happening.?
Narsh pointed out that the program will also advise business owners of pending street closures and detours due to construction, or community events that may alter traffic flow.
‘Now our business owners will have this information right at their fingertips,? said Narsh. ‘I hope this information is useful to our businesses and that it is utilized.?
The Community Alert Program will be made available to any and all businesses within the village limits.
The program is not to be used for the purpose of generating police reports or summoning the aid of police. It is strictly to be used as a source of public information.
Any businesses interested in taking advantage of the department’s Community Alert Program, is asked to e-mail the following information to LOPDalert@lakeorion.org.
* Your Name
* Business Name
* Business Address
* Business Telephone number
* E-mail Address
Narsh encourages village business owners to pass the information along to others who operate businesses outside the village limits.
‘After some time, I hope to get some feedback from businesses to measure the program’s effectiveness,? Narsh added.
