Dear Editor:
Congratulations to Mayor Sharron Catallo on her hard-fought victory in the Clarkston Mayoral election. Best wishes to Kristy Ottman who retains her Council seat and welcome to newly elected Council members Bill Rausch and Mike Gawronski.
I would like to thank my wife, Sue, for her support. I would also like to thank those who supported my campaign by hosting meetings and allowing campaign signs in their yards or businesses. Lastly, I would like to thank those who exercised their right to vote.
My unsuccessful campaign was based primarily on the initiative to lower property taxes.
Undoubtedly, some people may have voted for a change of leadership and not necessarily for the property tax initiative. That being said, the property tax issue was communicated clearly, consistently and broadly during the campaign. People who formed opinions and supported my campaign are not likely to change their minds merely because their candidate lost by 31 votes.
