An Independence Township family got a rude awakening when their home was hit with buckshot just after 6:00 a.m. Monday.
Patrick Lee was standing by the front window talking to his son, Corey, 11, when he heard a loud pop and looked down to see that the outside window had been hit and cracked in a spot directly in line with his torso.
‘If that thing had come through the second pane of glass, it would have hit my husband,? said Patrick’s wife, Traci Lee. ‘My son was really scared. I put my hand on him and he was shaking so bad he couldn’t control it.?
The Lees live on Clarkston Road, across from a large wooded area near Clintonville Road. The property is fenced and privately owned, but motorists often stop to feed the deer that are frequently seen just inside the fence.
It was unclear wherre the shot had originated, but Traci feared that a local hunter, over-anxious for the Nov. 15 start of hunting season took a shot at one of the deer and missed, hitting her house instead.
‘I want my neighbors to know about this,? she said, ‘and the people who stop on the road to feed the deer. Someone could get hurt.?
Patrick called the Oakland County Sheriff’s department, and a car was dispatched from the Independence Township substation to make a report of the incident. Sheriff’s deputies were not available for comment before press time.
