A man called in a possible fraud case to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Department last week, but was glad to learn he wasn’t swindled after all.
According to an OCSD report, the complainant, a Shady Oaks resident, said that a young man came to his home a couple weeks ago selling Christmas wreaths.
The young man said he was selling the wreaths for a Boy Scout fundraiser sponsored by St. Joseph Church.
The homeowner purchased a wreath for $25, but was worried two weeks later when the item had not yet arrived.
He called the church, where he was told that no such fundraiser was taking place. He called the OCSD on Nov. 20 to report the incident.
It appears now, however, that the whole issue was just a big misunderstanding, as the young man arrived at the Shady Oaks home on Sunday with the wreath in tow.
