Village Council members opted last Monday, to waive spending Community Development Block Grant Funds for 2004, with the purpose of using the money in 2007.
The village still had $5,310 in unspent funds from the 2004 CDBG allocation.
Because it was unlikely the money would be spent before the December 31, 2006 deadline, the Council had to waive recapture of the unused funds.
The unspent allocation included: $2,000 for sidewalk improvements, $1,500 for tree planting and $1,810 for water system upgrades.
Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel said the Village is allowed to protect any unobligated 2004 funds from recapture for one additional year by requesting the waiver.
She added that there are plans to use the funds sometime in early summer, although a specific use has yet to be identified.
