Brandon grapplers battle tough competition

Although their first-week record was subpar, Coach Erik Donders said the Brandon varsity wrestling team competed hard and had several solid performances.
The Blackhawks went 2-4 in their first week of action, including a 1-3 record at the Birch Run Tournament Saturday, Dec. 2. Brandon lost to Swan Valley, 46-35; Chippewa Hills, 73-3; and Saginaw Arthur Hill, 37-36.
The Blackhawks then rallied to defeat Onoway 48-33 for their lone victory of the day.
Andrew Hyde headed up the Blackhawks? efforts on the week, compiling a 6-0 record while wrestling at 152 lbs. Sam McGeachy (125) and Jake Beebe (112) each went 4-2 on the week, while Aaron Hyde (160) went 3-3.
In addition, Kyle Westfall (135), Zeke Grounds (275) and Ken McNeil (140) each went 2-2.
