Dear Editor:
The Independence Township Board is expected to again address the Corridor Improvement Authority proposal for Sashabaw Road in January.
The purpose of the CIA is to improve Sashabaw Road and infrastructure to benefit commercial development, both tax paying and non-tax paying.
An approval would utilize county and Independence Township monies, without a vote of taxpayers, to make it more appealing for development. Commercial development has progressed well along the Sashabaw corridor.
Now the township wants to spend taxpayer funds to further enhance development when studies are currently underway to reduce and eliminate Township Parks and Recreation activities because of a reduction in funds. The township board should not adopt the CIA proposal.
