Teens collect toys for tots

Oxford High School students recently collected and donated 809 toys to the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program.
The toys will be distributed as Christmas presents to needy kids in Pontiac.
For a week-and-a-half, the high school’s various departments competed to see which one could collect the most toys.
The science department won with 271 toys.
Second place went to the math department with 194 toys.
English collected 137 toys, social studies 113 and elective courses contributed a combined 94 toys.
All 809 toys lined the floor of the Ian Smith Gymnasium during a special assembly Dec. 12.
A trio of Marines, along with Santa Claus and four of his elves, were on hand to accept the generous donation, which extended from one end of the gym to the other.
