John Thomas is receiving the 2006 Michigan Parks and Recreation Margaret White Senior of the Year Award for Leadership today in Lansing.
He is being honored for his work as a volunteer and part-time staff member at the Independence Township Senior Center over the past 25 years.
Also, Kelly Hyer, recreation supervisor in the Independence Township Parks and Recreation Department, is receiving the New Professional award from Michigan Parks and Recreation. She will be honored at the annual state conference Feb. 6-9 in Grand Rapids.
The township Parks and Recreation will host a ‘re-presentation of the award? for Thomas and Hyer from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, in the Carriage House, Independence Township Senior Center in Clintonwood Park. Invitations will be sent.
