Turn, turn, turn…

Motorists traveling south on M-24 will soon find it easy to make left-hand turns onto eastbound Atwater Street in the Village of Lake Orion.
Village Council members passed a resolution last Monday, completing the final step required for installation of a new left-turn signal at the corner.
Village Manager JoAnn Van Tassel said a turn signal has been sought for some time to improve traffic flow and minimize accidents at the intersection by Sero’s.
A recent traffic study revealed that an average of 17 crashes occur at the intersection each year, many of them head-on and involving north/south traffic.
Head-on, left-turn crashes are considered to be correctible with the installation of a left-turn signal, the study showed.
The new installation will be designed and built as part of an upcoming signal upgrade project being conducted by the Road Commission of Oakland County.
Under the terms of the resolution, the Village of Lake Orion will be responsible for one-third of the annual cost of the signal, or about $100 per year.
The Michigan Department of Transportation will cover the remainder of the annual cost.
No specific date has been established for installation of the turn signal.
