Oxford’s grapplers did well at a 10-team tournament held in Imlay City Saturday. With an overall score of 152 points, the Cats finished third behind Ogemaw Heights (153) and first place Durand (200). Individually, the grapplers also did well.
Bobby Rhodes was the 135-pound champion while John Logan took first place in the 215-pound class.
Because Rhodes was a two-time champ who took first place in his weight class at last year’s tournament, he was named this year’s MVP.
Zac Miller took second in the 103-pound class.
Finishing third in their respective weight classes were Mike Upshur (119 lbs.), Kyle Brammer (130 lbs.), Brent Mueller (160 lbs.) and Aaron Moore (275 lbs.) Zack Line took fourth in the 189-pound class.
On Jan. 17, the grapplers beat Brandon 57-17, but suffered their first loss of the season to Clio 36-31. The team’s overall record in dual meets is now 13-1.
