A Coleport Street resident was startled by a loud crashing sound Saturday night and looked outside to find a vehicle in the ditch in front of his house.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, the resident called in a complaint after realizing his mailbox had been damaged by the driver of the vehicle.
The caller said he saw the man drive in a swerving fashion to his nearby driveway.
Deputies arrived on the scene and could see fresh tracks confirming this fact.
The driver was still in his vehicle, with the door open, when deputies arrived at his residence.
The vehicle had marks on it that corresponded with the mailbox damage.
The driver changed his story multiple times and had bad balance, leading police to believe he was intoxicated.
The man submitted to a preliminary breath exam, which revealed a blood alcohol content more than two times the legal limit.
The man was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated and reckless driving.
