Oxford’s varsity boys basketball team has been having a difficult time getting on the right track lately.
Last night, the boys were defeated by Lapeer East 51-41.
On Friday, the team was beaten by the Clio Mustangs Friday night 54-31. After the loss, their record fell to 3-10 overall and 3-7 in the Flint Metro League.
Oxford had a rough first quarter against the Mustangs. The Wildcats had trouble putting in baskets and only managed to score four points.
The Cat’s inability to gain any momentum in the first half resulted in their 11-point deficit ending the half. Going into halftime, the score was 23-12.
The Cat’s didn’t come out in the second half playing with any more intensity than they began with. Sluggish play throughout the entire game concluded with a 23-point loss. That put the Wildcats on a four-game losing streak.
‘We started out poorly offensively and never seemed to get on track,? explained Coach Steve Laidlaw.
Oxford’s leading scorer against the Mustangs was senior Brandon Dugan with seven points. Junior Zach Tilley followed with five and junior Russell Luxton added four to the board.
Oxford will be on the road Friday to take on the Holly Bronchos.
