Oxford’s grapplers chalked up six more victories last week, but the true test of their metal is tonight against Holly and Linden.
‘Both those guys are undefeated (5-0) in our league,? said Coach Scott Couch. ‘It’s going to be tough. I think whoever comes out on top is going to probably be league champs.?
‘Holly’s tough. You always have to look out for those guys,? he noted. ‘And Linden ? they’re no slouches. I give them all the respect in the world. (Tonight) really is a true test to see where we’re at.?
Oxford was virtually unstoppable last week as the boys took second in a six-team dual meet tournament they hosted on Saturday.
The Cats went 4-1 for the day beating Croswell-Lexington 57-12, Anchor Bay 46-27, Petoskey 48-18 and Utica Stevenson 40-24.
‘Petoskey was a big win because they were ranked in the state,? Couch said.
But despite the grapplers? best efforts, New Lothrop won the tournament beating Oxford 35-25.
Overall, Couch said it was a ‘very good day.?
‘We had some guys really step up and do a nice job,? he said. ‘Bo Cantara wrestled really well. Mike Upshur wrested great. He beat a kid from Petoskey who was ranked first or second in the state in Division 2. Mike beat him 5-4.?
Wrestlers John Logan, Zack Line and Aaron Moore all went undefeated at the tournament, according to the coach.
On Jan. 31, the grapplers earned two more wins against Fenton (64-6) and Lapeer West (45-24).
The team’s record is now 21-2 overall and 4-1 in the Flint Metro League.
