Clarkston Board of Education voted unanimously April 2 to approve purchase of 620 new HP/Compaq computers for the high school.
At a discounted price of $900 each, plus 200 teacher-workstation adaptors at $75 each, the total is $573,000.
The 4-year-old Dell computers they will replace will be distributed to other schools in the district.
The purchase is a capital expense funded by the 2003 School Bond, of $83.7 million. About $6 million is left.
By state law, the borrowed money can only be used for capital expenses, not operating costs such as salaries.
