Village Trophy Shop raises funds for Joan Brace arts scholarship

The Village Trophy Shop sponsored their First Annual Children’s All-Media Art Competition.
All Proceeds from this show were donated the Lake Orion Art Center’s Joan Brace Scholarship Fund. This fund was developed nine years ago to assist Lake Orion High School Seniors who wish to pursue a career in the arts achieve their goal.
The Village Trophy Shop moved from its Baldwin Road location in September of last year to its new location on Broadway in the downtown historical district.
Trophy shop owner, Tom Traurig, was first introduced to the OAC through his new neighbors at Accent on Art. They invited him to the OAC’s Snowflake Ball where he first heard about this scholarship in a speech given by OAC director Reggie Harrison.
Later that evening he met the OAC’s former director, Jewly Vera, of John Burt Realty GMAC, and upon further discussion they decided to develop an addition to this fund in memory of Helen Cunniff, a downtown Lake Orion gallery owner for many years and founding member of the OAC.
The Children’s Art Show opening was on Thursday, April 5, at the Village Trophy Shop (197 S. Broadway).
The award for best of show was determined by votes at the opening reception. There was an unexpected tie between Jacob Giampa and Gloria Cannon.
Traurig gave a trophy assembly demonstration as he quickly made a second best of show trophy. The children especially enjoyed watching the engraving.
Other awards were received by: Angela McBride, Cesily Sowels, and Rachel Traurig. Back to Beautiful Salon, Accent on Art, and Flint Street Gallery/Little Monsters donated prizes and the catering, donated by Cuisine Catering, was as delectable and as beautiful as the art.
This show will be displayed at The Village Trophy Shop through the end of April. The ninth annual Joan Brace Scholarship competition opening reception will be Wednesday, May 9 at the Orion Art Center.
The new Helen Cunniff Memorial Fund will be presented along with the Stephen J. Crowder Memorial Fund, Marce? Cyrowski Scholarship, and Oxford Bank awards.
