South Sashabaw Elementary was closed in 1982, due to declining enrollment. This summer, its building will be demolished.
Clarkston Community Schools received nine bids for the project at 5275 Maybee Road.
District Building and Grounds reviewed the bids and recommended the low bidder, S.A. Torello. The bid was approved unanimously by the School Board.
Torello’s bid was $37,400. A $20,000 allowance will provide for removal of asbestos and other hazardous material, and an old well, for a total of $57,400.
Estimated cost to demolish the building was $100,000. The goal is to complete the project by start of school in the fall.
