With just two weeks remaining in the Lake Orion Men’s Softball League, Ron Brunson leads the league with a .796 batting average (43-54); Phil Damico has the most home runs (10); Bob Lawton’s 50 hits is tops; and Matt Moulder’s 45 runs scored is more than any other Orion Leaguer.
SteelMaster Transfer/Christi’s (11-3 overall) clinched the National League championship with a 29-17 victory over Ruby Tuesday/Guinn Construction (7-7). With the help of an 11-run top-of-the-ninth inning, they were paced by Steve Fowler, Keith Lester, Darrin Sliwa, and Matt Morris, who had three hits apiece.
Jay Traylor had five hits for Ruby Tuesday/Guinn Construction.
Also in the National League, DeanoMac’s/RLC (8-6) defeated Cobra Computers/G & G Tree (8-6), 41-29.
The winners, who finished with seven home runs, were led by Jason Bailey, Lou Columbus and Brett Slocum, who each had six hits.
Finishing with five hits apiece for Cobra Computers/G & G Tree were Geoff Opelewski, Ron Brink, Rob Griffen and Brian Davenport.
Rounding out National League play was Gilligan’s Pizzeria, which improved to 8-6 on the season with a 37-20 victory over VFW Post 334/State Farm (1-13).
Coach Dwayne Smith was a perfect 6-6 for Gilligan’s Pizzeria, and Paul Sokol chipped in five hits.
For VFW Post 334/State Farm, Todd Brittingham, Jim Morris and Jerry Hoffman had four hits apiece.
The Lake Orion Eagles (7-7) kept pace in the American League with a 39-5 victory over Sports Explosion (1-13), as veterans Brad Cline and Roger Bailey chipped in six hits each.
For Sports Explosion, Mike Chamarro had three hits.
BW3’s (7-7) remained one of the hottest teams in the league at this point in the season, with its third-straight win, 13-7, this time around against Anderson Financial (7-7). Garrett Poulin led the way with four hits.
In the loss for Anderson Financial, six players had two hits, and Eric Peplowski hit a home run.
Hamlin Pub/Taco Bell, far and away, has been the best team in the league this season, and won its 12th-straight game. The victors, which improved to 13-1 with a 13-10 victory over TLC/Gentry Painting (6-8),
were led by Sanjay Shah’s three-hit performance.
TLC/Gentry Painting had three hits apiece from coach Ralph Adragna, Mike Gabriau and Jason Griffen.

Wagon Wheel I unleased eight homeruns to turn back Wagon Wheel II, in Lake Orion Men’s Softball League action on July 21.
Dave Beltz (3-for-6) led the barrage with a pair of homeruns. Darrin Lamphere (4-for-5), Jim Hoffman (5-for-7), Buster Kreuger (4-for-6), R. Geirg (4-for-6), Keith Lester (4-for-6) and Bill Basikow (4-for-6) also homered for the winners.
Mark Brancheau and Chris Messina were each 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Wagon Wheel II. Jamie Jamaladyne went 3-for-4, and Brandon Olanger was 2-for-2 to pace BW3’s.
Jay Traylor and Ed Buxton were each 5-for-5 to pace MBC, and Matt Moulder cracked a homerun in a 1-for-1 showing (four walks).
Cobra Computers defeated Quality Fast, 18-16.
Erik Davenport, Rick York and Larry Atorthy each went 4-for-5 to carry the winners. Matt Morris went 4-for-5 to pace Quality Fast, while Eric Peplowski and Mike Bendle were each 3-for-4.
Ruby Tuesdays defeated Hamlin Pub, 15-14. For Ruby Tuesdays, Brian Peck (2-for-5) led off the bottom of the ninth with a double, then scored the winning run on an RBI single by Mike Isola (4-for-5).
Ricky Slater (3-for-5) added a homerun for the winners, and Steve Pappin went 3-for-3. Kyle Fritz turned in a 5-for-6 showing for Hamlin, and Charlie Wellman was 3-for-4.
The Eagles defeated SOS Mechanical, 20-15. Chris Mize went 3-for-3 with a homerun, and Pat Bevilaqua was perfect with 5-for-5 as the Eagles improved to 13-1 with this win. Ed Stanek chipped in with a 2-for-2 performance.
Dwayne Smith went 5-for-5 and clubbed three homeruns for SOS, but it wasn’t enough.
Griffin Fence defeated Tool, Sport and Sign, 19-18. Dave Miller’s RBI double keyed a five-run eighth inning.
Gary Nelson, Donnie Miller and Mike Miscovich were each 4-for-5 for the winners. Ron Broth and Brian Davenport each went 3-for-3, and Troy Russnell was 3-for-4 to carry Tool Sport.
