A 39-year-old Ferndale man is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the leg on Friday night outside of the Hamlin Pub on Lapeer Road.
According to an Oakland County Sheriff’s Department report, the man was attempting to put his semi-automatic handgun away when it went off.
A friend immediately called police, and deputies arrived to find the man slumped in his seat with a large amount of blood in his lap and the gun on the floorboard.
A deputy applied pressure to the bleeding wound until medical personnel arrived. The man was transported to Pontiac Osteopathic Hospital in stable condition.
The OCSD report said the man, who had a concealed weapons permit, was attempting to unload the gun, before heading into the bar, when it went off.
The incident took place shortly before 10 p.m.
