The 10th annual ‘Rush for Food? is Friday, August 17. ‘Rush? is a community service event that brings together the freshman, JV, and varsity football team members to collect nonperishable food in local neighborhoods. The food collected helps to stock the emergency pantry at Lighthouse Emergency Services in Clarkston. This event helps to build awareness of a community need, promotes team unity, and allows players to give back to the community who supports them.
This event is organized by a volunteer committee, with support of the CHS football staff. Late summer is a time of high need for Lighthouse and due to the economy, they are in critical need of donations this year.
Homeowners can drop off donations directly at Lighthouse during its business hours if they are not along the pickup route.
Last year the event collected approximately 3,600 pounds of food and household necessities. The Clarkston Chiefs Youth Football program assists by collecting personal and paper products.
Financial sponsors for a pre-‘Rush? dinner are Complex Tool and Machine, Joe Lunghamer Chevrolet and Lunghamer GMC, and the Wylie family.
