Local sponsors help injured U.S. Marine

Thanks to generous donations from corporate sponsors in Oxford, Orion and surrounding areas, the Metamora Lions Charities and Friends sponsored Operation: Lockwood sporting clay shoot fund-raiser at the Hunter’s Ridge Hunt Club in Oxford on July 28 collected over $44,000 to financially support a wounded U.S. Marine, John Lockwood.
Lockwood recieved near-fatal injuries from a roadside bomb while on duty in Iraq. His injuries included a fractured pelvis, broken bones in both feet, broken right leg, numerous shrapnel hits, injured left hand, injured left leg and the loss of his left eye.
Although the Government will pay for John’s medical needs, there are other financial responsibilities John and his wife must meet. Proceeds from the fund-raiser will help pay for those needs.
John’s uncle and Lake Orion native, Chuck Stockwell, organized the fund-raiser.
The event included lunch, a sporting clay shoot, free catch and release fishing for kids, a silent auction and a raffle
Oxford businesses include: Hunter’s Ridge Hunt Club, Empire Development and Construction, P.C. Treasures, Tom Downs Family, Glenn Eisenhardt Excavating, Steve’s Oxford Automotive, North Oakland Elks 2716, Whitetail Trucking, DM Contracting, Carport Structures, Grove’s True Value Hardware and RSF Construction.
