Officer killed in traffic crash

An off-duty Flint police officer was killed in Independence Township Sun., Aug. 26 after he was thrown from his motorcycle, pinned under a car and along Sashabaw Road.
Vincent Owen D’Anna, 26, a Goodrich resident, was riding his 2007 Suzuki on southbound Sashabaw near Clarkston Road just after 8 p.m. when a 1992 Camaro struck him from behind.
Witnesses rushed to lift the Camaro off D’Anna, who was transported to Genesys Hospital.
He was was pronounced dead at 1:54 a.m., Mon., Aug 27.
Bystanders told police a 28-year-old Pontiac man exited the Camaro and tried to run away on foot, but was tackled by witnesses and detained at the scene until deputies arrived.
The suspect was lodged at Oakland County Jail after police obtained a blood search warrant and determined alcohol appeared to be a crash factor.
The accident remains under investigation, and charges are pending.
