Teachers get back to the grind

Students aren’t the only ones getting ready for school, teachers are also preparing for a wonderful year.
From decorating the classrooms and preparing curriculum to organizing learning material and meeting their students, Oxford teachers have been busy.
‘There is so much to do, but in the end it’s worth it because being organized is the best way to start off a great year,? said Barbara Johnston, a fourth grade teacher at Oxford Elementary.
According to Julie Adema, who teachers third grade and Clear Lake Elementary, ‘making a welcoming atmosphere for the students? is one of the most important responsibilities entering the school year.
Part of preparing for the new year is adapting to changes. There will be a new writing program.
‘We are starting the exciting Lucy Calkins writing programs this year and it is a series of lessons designed to (capture) the students? interest in writing,’said Laura Powers, a fifth grade teacher OES.
All of the preparations being made have led up to the first day of school Tuesday.
Clear Lake teacher Chad Boyd even gets nervous.
‘I do get kind of nervous about the first day of school because I want the students to be excited about the school year and the fun they will have but also know that they have a lot to learn,? he said.
