The Clarkston News earned four awards in the 2007 Michigan Press Association Better Newspaper Contest, including one for General Excellence.
Judges with Wisconsin Press Association cited the paper’s ‘good mix of news and images – optimizing spot color only? for the Honorable Mention award, out of 17 entries in Class D Weekly category.
Staff writer Laura Colvin earned two awards, including second place Feature Story out of 42 entries for ‘Finding a Family, I and II.?
‘Heart warming – great writing,? judges commented.
Colvin earned third place for Feature Picture for her photo ‘Think twice on ice,? out of 32 entries.
‘Overall great photo with great details; like the water dripping and the gear this guy is wearing,? said judges. ‘This precise moment of action was the one to capture.?
The Millstream section earned second place in Lifestyle Pages category out of nine entries.
‘A very complete section,? judges commented. ‘Staff who contribute to section seem to be embedded in community. Well done!?
Wisconsin Press Association judges studied more than 3,660 entries submitted by 144 Michigan newspapers.
