Brandon Police Reports

Phantom smell
On Oct. 20, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to Village Court for a malicious destruction of property report. The complainant was moving in to an apartment and said she found three holes in the drywall in the hallway that the apartments share and in her new apartment, she smelled cigarette smoke. The deputy could not smell smoke and didn’t observe any damage or signs of a break-in in the apartment.
Reckless
On Oct. 21, a Brandon deputy was on patrol near Ellis and Oakhill roads after being dispatched to assist Independence Township deputies with a report of shots fired. The Brandon deputy saw a vehicle in the area and decided to get a plate number and identify the driver. He activated his lights and the driver slowed down, then sped up. The deputy called out the stop as the vehicle slowed again, then sped up again. The suspect vehicle then whipped into a driveway and sped down the 300-foot long drive and whipped around the garage. The suspect then jumped out and ran, stopping only after the deputy yelled to stop or he would use the taser. The suspect stopped and went down in a prone position, yelling, ‘Don’t hurt me! Don’t hurt me!? When the deputy asked the suspect why he ran, the suspect replied that he had been beaten by police before because he is gay. He didn’t stop when the deputy activated his lights because he heard that they beat people up. The suspect had a valid driver’s license, nothing illegal in his vehicle and knew the homeowner whose driveway he pulled into. He was cited for reckless driving.
Rope rage
On Oct. 21, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 1500 block of S. Sashabaw Road for malicious mischief. The complainant was driving and struck a rope that an unknown person had tied across Sashabaw Road, two feet off the ground. The driver damaged his vehicle’s plastic grill and a mailbox the rope was tied to was also damaged.
DPW mischief
On Oct. 22, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the DPW garage, 159 Cedar St., to take a malicious destruction of property report. The village-owned DPW Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up truck was parked at the garage over the weekend and someone used a sharp object and punctured two of the vehicle’s tires. They were flat and beyond repair. The tires are valued at $150 each.
Beer brawl
On Oct. 23, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 4300 block of Dogwood for trouble. The complainant said two suspects were throwing beer bottles at her mobile home in an attempt to get her boyfriend out to fight. She and her boyfriend know the suspects, who were drunk and broke a window.
No laughing matter
On Oct. 23, a Brandon deputy was dispatched to the 4300 block of Wildwood Loop for a malicious destruction of property report. The complainant said she saw three boys laughing and running away from a vacant home. She later found one of the home’s windows broken. The boys were found and admitted to breaking throwing rocks at the home.
Wrong turn
On Oct. 23, a Brandon deputy who was on patrol observed a purple Explorer driven by a woman who seemed hesitant to turn right from Oakhill Road on to Ortonville Road, even after traffic cleared several times. She finally turned and the deputy obtained the license plate number as the woman turned into a business parking lot. He discovered the plate had expired in February and while waiting for the woman to return to her vehicle, discovered the registered owner had a suspended license and felony warrant out of Metamora for a non-sufficient funds check. When the driver returned, he arrested her, issued citations for driving while license suspended and expired plates and turned her over to the Metamora Police.
