Warmer weather will bring M-24 roadwork

Get ready for more roadwork in 2008 as M-24 between Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills and Davison Lake Road in Oxford Township will undergo surface work.
‘It probably won’t start until the weather gets nicer here,? said Resident Engineer Gerard Pawloski with the Michigan Department of Transportation. ‘The completion date for the project is June 16.?
According to a Dec. 19 letter sent out by Pawloski, M-24 from the Opdyke split to Drahner Road (including all of Orion Township and the Village of Lake Orion) and from Burdick Street to Davison Lake will receive a ‘hot mix asphalt treatment.?
‘Basically, it’s crack-sealing,? Pawloski said. ‘That entire stretch was resurfaced a few years ago. Now, we go back and do a preventative maintance type thing where we come through and seal any cracks that opened up.?
M-24 between Drahner Rd. and Burdick St. will undergo a ‘hot mix asphalt micro-surfacing.?
‘It’s a very thin overlay (of asphalt product),? Pawloski explained. ‘Basically, what it does is it seals up the surface.?
Motorists worried about how this will affect their commute to and from work or getting the kids to school on time needn’t fret too much.
‘It’s all going to be done at night or on weekends,? Pawloski said. ‘That’s such a busy, busy roadway that there’s really no good time to do it.?
A preconstruction meeting is set for 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 7 at the MDOT Oakland Transportation Service Center in Waterford.
Terry Asphalt Materials, Inc., based in Hamilton, Ohio, was the low bidder for the job and as such will be doing the work.
