To the editor:
Brandon school board, parents, and students, it’s time to wake up!
How many people have to lose their jobs with in the district before you will step up and take notice? Since Miller has stepped into the superintendent position, we have lost teachers, secretaries, and now a principal!
Are these cuts necessary?
What are the criteria used in order to fire, or in some cases replace, the existing staff? Are we to understand that our students have suffered educationally because of these staff members? The school board hired a superintendent in order to help our students get an education. With so much disruption within the staff, it’s amazing that there are any educators left! When the letter to the parents came home to inform us of Dr. Ferguson being removed to go to the CHOICES program, the letters did not state that this position was created for Dr. Ferguson. Our letters did not state the reason for taking a staff member, who has been a pillar at the school, a friendly face among the staff and students, a caring, highly educated professional, away from the place that needed him most. The letter also did not mention that the position was never posted for other staff to apply.
The staff was not informed of the switch of the administration until after the removal of Dr. Ferguson, a leader who received high evaluations prior to Miller’s arrival. At that time, the school ‘was? a Blue Ribbon school. Apparently Dr. Ferguson was doing ‘something? right. If you do not believe the student body is upset as to the removal, you should have seen the school on Tuesday as the student body dressed in black in support of Dr. Ferguson. The student body is also calling for a schoolwide boycott of classes in order to prove their point peacefully. The school community should be informed as to the reasons that our staff at Brandon is being threatened, or at least be asking, who’s next??
