To the editor:
A permanent memorial to honor three of America’s fallen soldiers? 2003 Brandon graduate Pfc. Joseph A. Miracle who was killed in military action July 5, 2007 in Afghanistan, 1965 Brandon High School graduate Army Sgt. Thomas A. Sherman, killed during the Vietnam conflict, and 1966 graduate Marine LCPL James T. Sutton killed during the Vietnam conflict? is a great idea (‘Brandon School Board to consider Miracle memorial, The Citizen, page 1, Jan. 26). These men were a part of our community and we should never forget their sacrifice for all of us.
In addition, I am aware that there has been discussion as to what name we give our new high school football field. I personally think that ‘Miracle Stadium? or ‘Miracle Field? would be two nice choices.
This project, which had come to fruition due to hard work on behalf of Tom Miller and others, as well as the support of the community, would be well served by naming the new field after one of our own, raised here in Ortonville/Brandon Township. Naming the football field after a man that gave everything so we could continue to live our lives as we do would be a great way to honor his memory. Every time our kids would run onto ‘Miracle Field? they would be reminded of Joseph A. Miracle, a fellow Blackhawk that gave everything for all of us.
