Free class on how to talk to children about sexuality

Clarkston Community Education and Clarkston Area Youth Assistance are co-sponsor the Talk Early and Talk Often parent workshop, 7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 15, at Sashabaw Middle School.
The 90-minute workshop, an initiative by Gov. Jennifer Granholm, offers assistance to parents of middle school youth in talking with their children about abstinence and sexuality. It is aimed at helping parents recognize and use opportunities to open the door for conversation, listen and respond with greater confidence and skill, and to feel comfortable seeking outside sources of information.
CAYA, one of 26 in the county, is principally funded by Oakland County Board of Commissioners, and administered and sponsored by the Oakland County Circuit Court – Family Division. It is sponsored locally by Clarkston Community Schools, City of the Village of Clarkston, and townships of Independence and Springfield.
The organization offers family education programs, school presentations, a mentoring program, a yearly youth recognition event, summer camp, and skill building experiences for the youth in our community.
The program is free. However, space is limited.
To register, call Kathryn McVean, CAYA staff secretary, at 248-623-4313.
