Baseball team 1st in FML

Six straight wins and first place in the Flint Metro League.
It was a very productive week for the Oxford varsity baseball team, which is now tied with Clio for the FML’s top spot.
To hold on to Number One, all Oxford has to do is beat league opponents Linden on Thursday and Lapeer West on Monday. ‘If we take care of business, we have our destiny in our own hands,? said Coach Kurt Nuss.
On May 8, the Wildcats knocked Lapeer East out of first place by beating them 4-0 and 7-1. In the first game, Kyle Teague got the win on the mound. He struck out 11 batters and only allowed four hits.
At the plate, Don Pohl had 3 hits and 2 RBIs and Eric Turk contributed 3 hits.
Game two saw pitcher Russ Luxton allow 2 hits and 1 run. Mitch Stefanski contributed an RBI and a double.
On Saturday, Oxford hosted a non-league tournament during which they beat Bay City John Glenn 4-1 and Southfield Christian 9-6 to win the tournament.
Game one saw James McLean get the win on the mound while Nick Tombrella got the save. McLean, Teague and Pohl all went were all 2 for 4. McLean had 3 RBIs and Pohl had 2 RBIs.
In the second game, Brandon Newberry pitched a great game allowing 4 hits in six innings. Justin Ziegelbaur went 2 for 4 while Luxton contributed 2 hits.
Against Holly on Monday, the team racked up two more wins. Oxford won the first game 2-0 and the second 9-0.
Luxton struck out 12 in game one and allowed only 3 hits. In game one, Alex Seinar hit a double with Teague following with a 2 RBI single to win it.
Teague struck out 14 in game two and allowed one infield hit.
Overall, Oxford is 19-5 this season. In FML play, the team is 10-2.
