Special Needs Fishing Derby

Goodrich- The third annual Special Needs Fishing Derby, hosted by the Trubiano family, is planned for 11 a.m.-2 p.m., June 7, rain or shine, at Hickory Pond located at 6424 Hickory Drive, off Coolidge Road.
The event is free and open to any special needs family in The Citizen readership area, says Gloria Trubiano, who has a son with autism. Last year, the derby drew 35 children.
Participants should bring chairs or blankets, a picnic lunch and their own fishing pole, although there are a limited number of poles available to borrow. Worms are provided and there is a tackle repair table and lots of helpers, including Girl Scout Troop 31.
There will be fishing contests, prizes, and goody bags for all participants, as well as a firehouse and mini petting zoo with goats, ducks, rabbits and a labrador.
Sponsors providing monetary donations or prizes include Sherman Publications, Inc., the Grand Blanc Huntsman Club, Bullring Sports Grill, DMF Bait, Renderoni’s Pizza, Ken’s Redi-Mix, The Amber Butterfly, the Statsen family of Grand Blanc and the Humphrey and Bigler families of Goodrich.
