No wishy-washy, politically correct rhetoric was heard in downtown Oxford’s Centennial Park on Memorial Day.
Just plain talk and strong words directed toward those who wish to destroy America and those who come here to live and work, but maintain allegiance to their native lands.
‘You come to this country, you come here because it’s the greatest country on the face of the Earth,? said Oakland County Commissioner Brad Jacobsen (R-Oxford). ‘And if you don’t like it, go back where you came from.?
For the second consecutive year, Jacobsen was the keynote speaker at Oxford’s Memorial Day observance. Although his speech was only 6? minutes long, it drew much applause and approval from the crowd.
Jacobsen read an e-mail he received supposedly written by a U.S. general to a young lady protesting a war memorial.
Paraphrasing the letter, he talked about how there are three groups of people ? sheep, wolves and sheepdogs.
‘The sheep are the majority of us,? Jacobsen explained. ‘We go on in our daily lives, not worried about what’s happening around us. We’re enterprising individuals. We take care of our families.?
On the other side of the fence are the wolves, which are the Islamic terrorist groups like Al Qaeda and the Taliban or individuals like Sadam Hussein and the warlords in Somalia.
These wolves ‘butcher, attack, (and) take away the rights and the abilities of the citizens,? Jacobsen said.
All that stands between the sheep and these hungry wolves are the sheepdogs, our nation’s proud veterans and brave soldiers on active duty.
‘I wish to thank those sheepdogs, the protectors, the warriors, the people who guard our shores and allow us to sleep safely at night,? Jacobsen said. ‘I think we should try to encourage as many people (as we can) out there to honor, respect and get involved in the security of our country.?
Despite the sheepdogs? best efforts, Jacobsen fears the U.S. will be attacked again someday.
‘They’re going to bring that battle to our shores,? he said.
Jacobsen recently watched a video of an Arabic cartoon that encouraged children to become ‘martyrs? and ‘suicide bombers.?
‘What a glory it is for them to attack the infidels? is the cartoon’s main message.
Jacobsen told the crowd they don’t have to be defenseless sheep against these wolves.
‘We need to be vigilant,? Jacobsen said. ‘We can keep our eyes open. We can be aware.?
For those who immigrate to our shores everyday, Jacobsen urged them to embrace the American ideal of assimilation.
‘I really don’t think it’s too much to ask them to learn to speak English and become Americans,? he said.
