A 27-year-old woman was hospitalized Monday after she was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend in a downtown Clarkston apartment the couple was sharing.
Richard Curtis Smith, 40, was arraigned in 52-2 District Court on charges of second offense domestic violence and held in Oakland County jail on $50,000 bond.
Clarkston Police Chief Dale LaCroix said he and Officer Roy Johnson, who responded to the 911 call around 6:45 a.m., noted a significant amount of blood visible in the apartment, near the corner of Washington and Holcomb.
‘There was blood in every room,? said LaCroix, noting both the man and woman admitted they’d been using drugs. ‘He tried to clean it up, but all he did is make a bigger mess.?
Smith has an extensive criminal history, including a 2005 conviction on domestic violence, and was on parole when he was arrested Monday.
‘I believe Smith is a threat to society and a threat to the victim,? Johnson told Magistrate Elizabeth Sciappell before bond was set. ‘If he gets out, I believe the victim’s life is in danger.?
A preliminary exam was scheduled to take place within 14 days.
