Hundreds of bikers are expected to descend on Oxford next week.
Not to worry.
These motorcycle riders are part of HIM, which is an acronym for Hogs In Ministry, a ministry targeted at motorcyclists.
The group will congregate at Christ the King Church, 1550 W. Drahner, on Sunday, August 30.
According to organizer Bill Kirkland, the event is open to anyone and will include several activities, food and prizes.
This is the third year for the event and Kirkland said it should be a great event.
‘HIM seeks to evangelize in the biker community,?? he said. ‘We want them to know there are better ways than drugs, alcohol and rock and roll. We want to bring them into the church.?
Anyone interested should arrive at Christ the King between 10 and 11 a.m. to register. A short time later there will be a poker run for bikers to travel to different locations in the community and collect cards.
After returning to Christ the King, those with the best poker hand will win some nice prizes. Kirkland said there will be some nice gifts for others.
Following the Poker Run, there will be a testimonial by a member of the HIM ministry, followed by a message from Rev. Holt, of Christ the King.
Those attending can then enjoy a pig roast.
Everything is free and Kirkland said everyone is welcome.
HIM has become a large ministry in several states and is very popular among motorcyclists, Kirkland said.
