Dear Editor:
(In response to: ‘Township man cited for violations on loose pit bull,? The Citizen, Aug. 30, page 1) I just wanted to thank Sgt. Pete Burkett for his voice of reason. Too often we hear of vicious dogs, in particular pit bulls, and what a danger they present. Now we have cities banning certain breeds because they are too mean, too dangerous. As Sgt. Burkett pointed out, it’s irresponsible, cruel owners that do not monitor their dogs or that intentionally make them mean. Let’s put the responsibility where it belongs, on these owners and stop persecuting bully breeds (remember when it was ‘the big bad? Doberman?) and responsible families/owners.
Please spay and neuter and consider adopting a shelter pet.
