A seventh-grade teacher at Sashabaw Middle School is on administrative leave pending investigation into her behavior on the first day of school, Sept. 2.
According to Oakland County sheriff reports, administrators summoned Det. Kirk Matich, school liaison officer, as well as union and human resources representatives, because they believed the teacher was under the influence of alcohol.
Matich administered a breathalyzer test, which indicated a .089 Blood Alcohol Content. Asked if she had been drinking alcohol, the teacher reportedly said she drank vodka the night before.
As she stood up, she lost her balance, fell, and hit her head. Independence Township EMS was called to help, and took her to Beaumont Hospital in Troy.
According to policy, Clarkston school district considers alcohol abuse a treatable disease, and offers the same consideration and assistance it would for other diseases.
Comment is limited by personnel privacy issues, said Anita Banach, director of Communications and Marketing.
However, ‘at no time was any student ever in jeopardy ? safety is our top priority,? Banach said.
