Goodrich – From the lives of sailors to fishermen to lighthouse keepers, the tales of Lee Murdock’s passion toward the Great Lakes comes alive in his music.
‘There is a real wealth of songs and stories from the Great Lakes,? said Murdock.
At 7:30 p.m., Oct. 10 Lee Murdock will perform, at the Raymond C. Green theater, 8029 S. Gale, Road.
The folk music Murdock composes and sings is about all of the people who live, work, learn and play along the shores of the Great Lakes.
‘I enjoy performing these songs that have interesting stories not only for the people who already like folk music, but for those who think they don’t like folk music,’said Murdock.
It is through his music, he said, that his fans have learned about the rugged days of lumberjacks and wooden sailing schooners. His songs about the Great Lakes tell tales of ghosts, shipwrecks, outlaws and everyday heroes.
‘More than anything else, audiences are drawn to performers with passion,? said Jim Blum, WKSU Radio in Kent, Ohio. ‘Lee Murdock’s passion is the sea, and it’s infectious.?
This is the first concert of four scheduled for the 2008-09 series of the FAME (Fine Arts; a Mainstream in Education).
Proud to introduce him to Goodrich and the surrounding communities, FAME organizers said Murdock is a renowned Midwestern musician who has released ten albums/CDs of folk and maritime music.
Murdock’s songs, they said, combine ragtime, Irish blues and folk styles about the hard work, hard living and ships that go down and ships that come in.
