Historic Lake Orion church breaks ground for new education building

The Lake Orion United Methodist Church, located at 140 E. Flint Street will be getting a new look this fall as they begin construction on a New Education Building. The church which is currently around 20,000 square feet will add a roughly 13,800 square feet with the new building. The new structure will be attached to the back of the church where a former parsonage was located.
On September 7th, 2008, undeterred by the rain, the congregation gathered outside behind the current sanctuary to officially break ground for their new education building. The celebration included words from the Pastors, Bruce Denton and Marge Munger the District Superintendant, Peggy Paige. The Architect, Steve Auger and Builder, Paul Weisenbach of Frank Rewold and Sons builders were also on hand for this momentous occasion. The Congregation sang songs, and the youth shared a list of the top 10 things they won’t miss about their current meeting place. Everyone had a chance to dig some of the dirt and to place a stone on the ground in the shape of a cross. The stones, on which individuals wrote something meaningful to them, will be incorporated as part of the foundation of the new building. This new building will allow the church to continue its current ministries with much less crowding and also allow them to expand to more children and youth in the community.
