Marvin Gaye’s smash hit recording, ‘What’s Going On? – tell me what’s goin on-woo woo woo-pretty much sums up what my job will be as your new reporter for The Lake Orion Review.
So while most of you are working during the day, I will take the pictures and write the stories to help you stay connected to what’s going on in Lake Orion.
My primary responsibility each week will be to cover school sports and education. However, I will also keep you informed about upcomimg events in your community, on the’Around Town – Happenings? page.
Since I am interested in people, you will see feature stories about some of the folks who live here and I will cover the traditional holiday events and anything else that is going on.
The quaint buildings downtown, along with your beautiful neighborhoods and schools, will make it a pleasure to be a reporter here.
When I recently stood in the parking lot at Lake Orion High School gazing at the building, I thought to myself – ‘What a beautiful school.?
Obviously the residents here take pride in their schools and care about the education their children are receiving. I have recently retired from education after 17 years and I am looking forward to giving teachers, staff and students the ink they deserve in their hometown newspaper.
Also a reporter on the west coast for 10 years, I had to learn that a soft drink here is called ‘pop?- not soda.
Oh well, the differences between the west and East coast are small. Schools, government and people in America are primarily the same wherever you go.
Thanks ahead of time for allowing me into your schools, businesses and homes to give you, the reader, an up close and personal look at the people who live, work and play here..
