Boys cross country qualifies for state competition

This is the fifth year in a row the LO boys cross country team has won their regional meet.
The first place win at Saturday’s regional meet at Algonac High School has also qualified the team to compete in the state competition this Saturday, Nov. 1 at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
Coach Stan Ford said the team ran very well and has been very prepared all season. He said Sean Bone was the first place finisher and ran the 3.1 mile race in 15 min. 30 sec.
‘That time was very fast,? said Ford.
The competition at Michigan International Speedway Ford said will be intense. He said 27 teams among nine regions from throughout the state will compete at the state competition. .
Ford said the team will have just one shot to win the state competition. He said the Division I race will start at 2 p.m. with over 200 runners on the track for the start of the race
Ranked in the top seven schools, Ford said they are not considered the favorite to win at the state competition, however he said he has a great team.
‘They have put in the time and dedication and most of my seven runners are seniors so they have a lot of experience. They know what it is going to take to do well at this state competition,? said Ford.
Ford said the best the LO Boys cross country team has finished at a state competition is 5th. ‘Our goal is to finish in the top five,? said Ford.
