Police officers collect awards

The annual Village of Lake Orion appreciation banquet took place in April at Kalloway’s Restaurant in Oxford.
The event, which originally started out honoring police officers, has now expanded to include people who have volunteered their services to the village in any capacity.
Years of Service Awards from the
police department were:
Christopher Drew — 5 years. Entered service on Sept. 15, 1998 as a reserve officer. He has also been appointed to the village’s bike patrol.
Barbara Agro — 5 years. Started for the second time as a dispatcher on Aug. 5, 1998. She and her husband have retired and spend the winter months in Florida, but Agro works many hours in the summer.
Rebecca Shank — 5 years. Started as a full-time dispatcher on March 2, 1998. She is currently working the midnight shift.
Brian Martinez — 10 years. Started as a reserve officer on Dec. 7, 1993. He was promoted to part-time officer on June 27, 1997 after graduating from the Macomb Police Academy. Martinez is also the commander of the bike patrol unit.
Stephen Bauer — 15 years. He entered service on Sept. 9, 1988 as a reserve officer. Bauer was promoted to reserve sergeant on Sept. 19, 1994 where he continues as a squad sergeant.
Pat Fry — 30 years. Started as a reserve officer in December 1973. She became a part-time dispatcher April 28, 1975 and full-time on May 6, 1976. Fry is currently the senior dispatcher and works the day shift.
Retirements
Delores Recknagel is retiring after 20 years of working as a part-time dispatcher, mostly weekends.
Department Citations
Six dispatchers earned citations for their efforts during the April ice storm. They were Fry, Judy Romine, Shank, Russ Greenlees, Joanna Ingoglia, Corrine Salmons.
Officer Rob Barker — Given a citation for his efforts in the capture and subsequent trail and conviction of two men charged with burglary at the Marathon gas station in November 2002.
Lieutenant Harold Rossman — Captured a suspect in a sexual assault in August 2002. The man was convicted of the crime.
Officer Jeffrey Kronx — Was given a citation for sealing a severed artery of an elderly woman who was bleeding profusely. She has returned to normal health. The incident occurred in August 2002.
Academy Graduation
Larry Dugan entered service with the police department on Aug. 5, 1998 as a reserve officer. He was chosen to be sponsored to attend the Macomb Police Academy. Dugan graduated from the academy on Dec. 11, 2002 and was promoted to part-time police officer on Jan. 9.
Outstanding Service Hours Awards
Lake Orion reserve officers are required to contribute 96 hours of patrol time per year. Officers who served more than 200 hours or more in the part year include Amy Fong-Kretzmer (321 hours), Paul Deesen (229), Mark Titus (212.5), David Mirku (200).
Reserve officers donated a total of 2,561.5 hours in 2002.
