Amy Kociszewski-Wilson of Independence Township knows Family Video provides Thanksgiving turkeys to families in need.
As president of Clarkston Junior High School PTA, she had an idea of where they could go this year.
“I just stopped in and asked,” Kociszewski-Wilson said.
“There are a lot of kids in school who could use some help,” said Ron Tolbert, manager of the Family Video store at Sashabaw and Maybee roads and 1999 Clarkston High School graduate. “It’s a great idea, helping families in the area I grew up in. I couldn’t turn it down.”
Tolbert had 20 turkeys available for donation. A quick call to a Family Video in Waterford made it 40.
One last problem, where to store the turkeys, was solved by a visit to the neighboring Kroger’s store.
“We can’t store them at school because it will be closed for the holiday,” Kociszewski-Wilson said. “We went over to talk to Mike Flanigan (meat manager at Kroger 651) and he set it up. He helped out tremendously.”
‘It’s for the community. They all shop here,? said Flanigan, who will keep the turkeys and distribute them in time for Thanksgiving.
When Kociszewski-Wilson told friends in Bay City, they contacted their local Family Video and got 60 turkeys, she said.
“So we went from 20 to 100 turkeys,” she said. “We really appreciate it.”
