Condemnation plans proceed on township cottages

Brandon Twp.- By next spring, there should be three less cottages in the township.
During their Dec. 1 meeting, the newly elected township board unanimously approved going forward with condemnation action on a township cottage at 1681 Hayes, while delaying action on two other structures located at 2431 Ortonville Road while the owner contracts with an independent company for demolition.
Building Director Tim Palulian described the Hayes Road cottage as ‘worn out.?
‘It’s very, very old, probably there since the ?30s or ?40s,? he said. ‘It’s rotting in the roof and foundation, and wide open for animals to get in the crawl space. The deck is collapsed. It’s in really tough shape. It’s not worth using the existing structure in any way, shape or form to rebuild.?
Palulian will now file suit to have the structure removed. Several attempts to contact the owner have failed and a title search will seek other parties of interest. Tracking ownership makes it a longer process, and no action will likely be seen until at least spring on the cottage that overlooks Perry Lake, Palulian said.
The owner of the property at 2431 Ortonville Road was present at the board meeting and said he is contracting with a company to demolish the two cottages there that overlook Lake Louise and the work should be completed in two weeks.
