Woman who rallied community loses cancer battle

She’s gone now, but she certainly won’t be forgotten by her family, friends and the community that rallied to make her last wish come true.
Audrey Tenaglia, the 42-year-old Addison woman whose story touched people’s hearts, passed away Monday night after a battle with Stage 4 colon cancer that began in January.
Tenaglia gained public attention in early November when three of her friends set up an account at Oxford Bank to collect donations so she could take her four children and husband on a trip to Disney World to make one last great family memory.
An outpouring of love and support from every corner of the community resulted in contributions totalling more than $23,000.
The Tenaglia family was able to go to Orlando, Florida between Nov. 28 and Dec. 3.
Friends told the Leader they had a terrific time together and Audrey was in good health for a majority of the trip.
Unfortunately, when they returned, Audrey’s condition took a turn for the worse and she had to go to Troy Beaumont Hospital where she ultimately passed away.
She is survived by her husband of 15 years, Mike, and her beloved children, Silvana and Serafina, who are in second and fifth grades, respectively, at Leonard Elementary; Glenn (or ‘Vinnie? to friends), a seventh-grader at Oxford Middle School; and Rocco, a freshman at Oxford High School.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 19 from 2 to 9 p.m. at Wujek-Calcaterra and Sons Funeral Home (54880 Van Dyke Rd.) in Shelby Township. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20 at St. Cornellius Church (3834 Mills) in Dryden.
Donations to the Audrey Tenaglia Fund can still be made at any Oxford Bank location. The money will now be used to care for the children Audrey left behind.
