Event to attract prospective brides, grooms

Before you march down the aisle and say ‘I do? forever, head over to downtown Oxford Saturday, Feb. 7 to find everything you’ll need to create the perfect wedding.
From 12-5 p.m., the Oxford Downtown Development Authority is hosting its annual ‘Uptown Weddings in Downtown Oxford? event.
‘It’s going to show brides-to-be that they can get just about everything they need in downtown Oxford to make their wedding dreams come true,? said DDA Director Madonna Van Fossen. ‘We’ve got catering services through various restaurants. We’ve got the bakery. We’ve got the photographer.?
Eighteen local merchants, both in and out of the DDA district, are participating in Saturday’s event including Villa de Goochi Salon, Johnston Photography, Mark A. Young Jewelers, The Tan Company, Curves for Women, Beadifferent, ReGina Paul Salons, Oakwood Wedding Chapel, Sabrina’s Salon, Sweet & Savory Bake Shop, Art & Dick’s Party Store, The Lighting Guy, A&A Flowers, Oxford Bank, Victoria’s Delights, Jon Marx Steak & Seafood, Live, Laugh, Love and Scrap, and 24-7 Limousine.
‘Oxford has such a diverse array of businesses to make a wedding happen. It’s basically one-stop shopping in a quaint downtown environment,? Van Fossen said.
Each of the participating businesses will be offering various specials and giveways during the five-hour extravaganza.
‘For example, JonMarx is going to be giving away free bruschetta at the bar and they’re running Martini specials,? Van Fossen said.
Brides-to-be and prospective grooms are invited to stop in the former Oxford Antique Mall (a limousine will be parked out front) and register to win a $500 gift certificate valid at participating businesses.
‘At least $300 of the $500 has to be spent at businesses within the DDA district,? Van Fossen said. ‘That’s going to keep people shopping downtown.?
