The Lake Orion boys swimming and diving team placed a low 13 on Feb. 7 at the Oakland County meet.
Points toward the team’s overall score are only earned for the top 16 places.
In the 200-meter medley relay, Zachary Nowicki, Jacob Lindquist, Petar Simic and Darryn Horvath placed 8 with a time of 1:45.47. This earned 22 points for the overall score.
Horvath, John VanGamper, Marc Vetter and Caleb Narsh swam to 12th place in the 200-meter free relay, scoring 10 for the team with a time of 1:35.68.
In the 200-meter free relay, the team earned eight points from Vetter, Will Cavender, Lindquist and Simic, placing 13 and timed at 3:31.88.
Nowicki placed 14th in the 100-meter back event with a score of 1:00.33, scoring the team three points.
‘Zach would have scored higher, but he missed a wall and lagged behind,? said Coach Paul Fairman.
Chris Fraga earned the only two points for the one-meter dives event with a place of 15 and a score of 291.60.
According to Fairman, the best swim of the day was by Simic in the 50-meter free event. Simic placed fourth with a time of 22.97, scoring the team 15 points.
‘The whole meet itself was pretty slow overall,? said Fairman. ‘Most of the kids are not used to working at a 100 percent effort. Whether it is in swim practice, school or at home, they aren’t all there.?
The only two Dragons currently qualified for the state meet are Lindquist and Simic.
Lindquist placed eighth in the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:05.15, while Simic placed ninth, timed at 1:05.29. This earned the team a total of 20 points.
‘A lot of it is about the experience for the kids. They need to know how to relax when they aren’t swimming, and get fired up when they are. Hopefully we will do much better next time,? added Fairman.
