Having good chemistry is a great strength to have on any sports team. This year’s varsity ice hockey team has that strength.
The players work well together because the coaches took them up to a camp in Traverse City at Lake Ann.
It was a weekend-long camp where they didn’t focus on anything related to hockey.
‘We did many team-building activities,? said Jordan Macco.
The team-building helped to build good relationships between all the players. It stuck with them throughout the season.
‘The camp definitely helped with trusting my teammates on the ice,? said Macco.
As with other sports, the hockey team has its requirements to make the team. Players need to have at least a 3.0 GPA.
‘The coaches want us to succeed. If someone has a bad grade, they confront them about it,? said Macco.
Throughout the season, the team has done much off-ice conditioning.
‘We would do weightlifting and a lot of running,? said Macco.
The team is looking forward to next season. ‘We have 14 seniors on the team right now and next season, we will have a younger team,? said Coach Pat Cherry.
The team gets better and better players each season.
‘There have been no fights in the past three years,? said Cherry.
According to Cherry, they try to win as many league games as possible.
‘The team has achieved most of its goals that were set at the beginning of the season,? said Cherry.
At the Trenton Showcase that was held Feb. 12-14, the team did pretty good. They played two games losing one and tieing in the other.
