Broncos end Lion’s season, 60-48

Lake Orion Baptist School Lions made it to the 2008/2009 Michigan Association of Christian Schools (MACS) Division I Boy’s Basketball Tournament.
The Lions were seeded number four and played Bridgeport Baptist Academy Broncos of Saginaw, number three, in last week’s quarter final game.
The Broncos were the home team at Saginaw and brought the Lions’ season to a halt with a 60-48 victory.
The first quarter ended with the Broncos leading 15 -14. At half time the Lions were trailing 28-20. The Broncos jumped to a 15 point lead at the end of the third, 45-30.
Lions made a run in the fourth quarter and got within five points at the three minute mark when the Broncos slowed the game down and forced the Lions to foul in an attempt to continue the cut into the play.
However, the Broncos made nine of their 11 free throws and took a victory and headed to the semi-final games.
Through the course of the game, Lions had 18 steals to the Broncos’ 16. Lions rebounded well even though the Broncos had a height advantage – Lions 29 and Broncos 34.
Senior Captain and point guard James Moreno suffered a knee injury in the second which required him to take more rest than in a normal game, but he was still the Lions leading scored with 14 points, two rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Junior Co-Captain Chris Hojnacki followed with 13 points, four rebounds, two steals and one assist.
Treavor Halleck had seven points, two rebounds, four steals and six assists.
Freshman James Noruk had six points one rebound, one steal and three for five on the floor.
Junior Matt Cameron had four points, 10 rebounds one steal.
Freshman Brad Watterworth had two points, nine rebounds four blocks and one assist.
The Lions season record was 7-9.
The leading scorer for the Broncos was Junior Zach Evans with 26 points and Joe Howell had 15 points. The Broncos are 12-2 for the season.
The final for the Division I Boys tournament was Saturday with the 2008 champions, Juniata Christian Eagles of Vassar, repeating again this year as the Division I Champions. The beat State Line Christian of Temperance in the final game.
