Village manager gets high marks, and a posssible pay increase

The Village Manager’s performance in a word? ‘Good,? said Council President Robert Reetz.
Over the past few weeks, the village council evaluated Zelenak’s managerial performance, job responsibility and personal character. The evaluation is for his annual review, of which the most important outcome is a potential pay raise.
Details of a salary increase – traditionally two to three percent – will be discussed at the coming council meeting, March 25 at 7:30 p.m.
For the review, councilmembers awarded up to five points for each of the 30 questions in the evaluation.
‘The lowest he received was a three and there were lots of fives,? Reetz said.
The manager’s overall score was a four, which reads, ‘Meets and exceeds minimum expectations and requirements most of the time. Good effort.?
Low points included budgeting and fiscal management, and training and developing subordinate employees. Zelenak received a 3.6 for both.
High points were numerous and included imagination, effective communication, standing up in the face opposition, fostering unity and enthusiasm, organization, executing his executive role and maintaing a respected progessional reputation.
The manager hit the highest note – 4.4 – on dependability.
Both Reetz and Council Member Ken VanPortfliet praised Zelenak for his presence in the community.
‘Paul goes above the call of duty with his presence at social events,? VanPortfliet said, adding the manager is considerate and passionate about the village.
‘I think he’s doing a very good job,? said Reetz. ‘We’re lucky to have him and I hope he continues.?
